La Ruta del Sol

La Ruta del Sol is a strip of some of the most beautiful and popular beaches in Ecuador, with some of Ecuador’s best surfing. The area is best from December to June, when the weather is hottest. However, this also coincides with the often torrential rainy season between January and April. After July the temperatures drop and it can be surprisingly cool at times. Prices are often cheaper and hotels are emptier, which can be peaceful or depressing, depending on your taste. You could spend months chilling in backpacker hang-outs like Montañita or beach-hopping along countless undiscovered beaches. However, a shorter trip is more common by taking advantage of the rapidly developing tourist infrastructure. The public transportation is fairly extensive and inexpensive, and there are also several tour agencies that offer package deals to highlighted spots along the coast, though these tend to be overpriced.
