Puerto López
Puerto López is one of the more established towns along the Ruta del Sol and the main hub for travelers visiting Isla de la Plata and Parque Nacional Machalilla. The town has a growing selection of hotels, some good restaurants, and reliable agencies to book whale-watching tours, trips to the island and hikes in the national park. However, while many travelers enjoy staying here for a day or two, you may find it surpisingly ragged in places. The pot-holed dirt roads and garbage on the beach are not the best advertisement for the tourist center of Ecuador's only coastal national park.
