Whale-watching can be arranged from any number of tour operators with offices along the Malec贸n. The season is June to September, when the humpback whales arrive in the warm coastal waters looking for a mate or to protect their young. Boats generally set off mid-morning, around 10 or 10:30 a.m., and return around 2 p.m., but some operators after afternoon tours that leave at 2 p.m. and return at 5 p.m. You may see individual whales, pairs, or small groups of up to eight, and the massive whales can sometimes be observed jumping out of the water or flapping their tails. Most whale-watching also include a short snorkeling session and small snack. These tours can also be arranged from other coastal towns, including Mompiche, Puerto Cayo, Manta, Monta帽ita, Ayampe and Salinas.
