Although Puerto López is situated in a relatively remote location, the town is reasonably well connected to other parts of Ecuador. The nearest airport, in Manta, is two hours to the north, although many people chose to fly to Guayaquil and make their way up the coast from there.
From Puerto López it is very easy to travel by bus to destinations up and down the coast. Buses run every 15 minutes both north to Manta (two hours, $3), and south to Santa Elana (two and a half hours, $3), passing through Montañita after an hour and a quarter. Buses also run at least three times daily to Guayaquil (four hours, $5). To get between Quito and Puerto López, either take an overnight bus (11 hours, $12), or take a bus to Manta and change there.
Prices and times change regularly so if you have to catch a bus enquire at the bus station to find out the exact times buses will be passing through the town.
