When to Go to Puerto López

Puerto López sees tourists all year long, but tourism swells during whale-watching season, which runs June to mid-September. Accommodation prices are also higher during this time. It is also important to note that tours to Isla de la Plata are different during the wet and dry seasons. During the wet season, the island is green and the majority of the birds are seen flying overhead or on the cliffs; during the dry season, the plants dry up and land birds can be seen walking around the island itself.

The town of Puerto López also celebrates several holidays each year. June 23-25 is the Festival de las Ballenas Jorobadas (Festival of the Humpback Whale) and August 31 is the Aniversario de Cantonización (the Town's Anniversary). Also, every year from June 27 to 30, fisherman in the province of Manabí do processions in honor of their patron saints San Pedro and San Pablo.
