Alalandaluz Hostería y Pueblo Ecológico is one of the few true ecologically friendly lodges along the Ruta del Sol. Water is recycled for watering plants and compost is also used for fertilization purposes. The organic garden provides most of the fresh food in the restaurant. You will find several trash-cans for organic or un-organic waste spaced around the lodge. Alandaluz also makes an effort to preserve the native culture. A small kiosk near the main reception sells artesanal products made by a local women's organization.

With capacity for about 100 guests, Alandaluz has a playful ambiance with Robinson Crusoe-esque architecture and a clever tree-house play area for children. Cabanas are divided in tall, wooden structures with rooms for one to four guests each. Choose from cabanas with ocean views, the most expensive, mid-range cabanas close to the main lounge and restaurant, and the most economical cabanas with views of the forest and road with shared bath per each two rooms. There is also camping space at $4 per person. Internet is available for emergency use only at $0.50/minute.

Atmosphere is great; the people are simply magic: they'll do anything to please you. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that Ecuador doesn't have its own currency, and is running on USD.

The food is phenomenal. The people are cool and the beach is amazing...Food. The best food in the world. This place will be my next spring break vacation.
