The obvious highlight of this hostel is the boat-shaped main building with a common lounge, restaurant, bar and excellent ocean views. Here you can exchange books in four languages, watch satellite TV or shoot pool in the upper decks of the main boat. The boat theme is carried out in the architecture of the cabanas, with porthole mirrors, rounded doors and natural stone locks.
Prices are reasonable. The prices listed here are for low season, expect to pay a little more during high season. Laundry service is available at $1/lb. You can also get reasonably priced tours and rental equipment from La Barquita. Kayak rental is $5/hour as is horse rental. Whale watching tours are $25/person and tours to Isla de la Plata are $30/person plus the park entrance fee of $15.

La Barquita
100%La Barquita was one of THE best places we stayed in when visiting in 2006. The service was excellent all round. The food was incredible, the room was clean and the shower was good! A quiet, restful place to stay for 3-4 days. We also booked a tour to Isla de Plata - a good tour but beware of swimming off the boat with riptides. NONE of the guides could swim!
