A small, active fishing village just six kilometers south of Puerto López, the main features of Salango are its excellent seafood (big surprise!) and a small archeological museum, Museo Salango. We don't recommend taking a dip in the water as the town is a prominent fishing village and unwanted fish parts are often dumped in the shallow surf where algae and other scavenger fish flourish on the leftovers. If you are desperate for a swim, just head south to Puerto Rico where there is a great stretch of clean, quiet beach.
Have lunch at the Delfin Magico, best restaurant in the area. You may want to bypass the main beach in town and head to the beautiful pristine beach which is just out of town to the left as you're looking at the beach.
The best place I visited in five weeks of traveling the whole of Ecuador!
