Pink Iguana

First discovered in 1986, the Pink Iguana was thought for a ling time to be a subspecies of the Galapagos Land Iguana. In early 2009, however, researchers at a University in Rome released a study declaring the Pink Iguana to be a different species. There is only a very small population of Pink Iguanas in Galapagos, and they are all found on the slopes of Wolf Volcano on the northern end of Isabela Island. They are considered critically endangered due to their small population, and efforts are under way to protect them. Currently, there are no visitor sites on Wolf Volcano, so visitors to Galapgos will not get to see them.
