The “Interpretation Center” on San Cristobal is a small complex of buildings located at the far end of town. It’s a museum of sorts, with displays on the natural and human history of Galapagos: the human history part is by far the more interesting although both are well done. It has interesting displays on everything from the famous “Galapagos Affair” to the hardy Norwegians who settled Galapagos in the 1920s. The center is an interesting stop for just about anyone interested in the history of the islands.
There is also a conference room and small open-air theater, both of which seem to be rarely used. Behind the interpretation center is the trail that leads to the Cabo de Horno/Punta Carola beach and Tijeretas Hill and snorkeling lagoon. The trail itself is paved and well-marked: it’s impossible to get lost.
