Residencial Wilmar - Hostel San Cristobal - Ecuador

It doesn’t look like much from outside, but the Residencial Wilmar isn’t your worst choice in town. The place is clean, the owners are friendly, and it’s $5 cheaper than comparable places, probably because it’s a couple of blocks from the main drag. The rooms are the typical San Cristobal cells with a walled-off bathroom, a TV (no cable), small fridge and an air conditioning unit. Look at all the available rooms (there are only 6 in total): some have a bad view of the neighbor’s ugly house, while other rooms have an even worse view of a cement brick wall.

The best part is the covered rooftop terrace with a great view of the town and Shipwreck Bay. This top floor can serve as a restaurant if there is a large group there: otherwise, it’s kept mostly empty but there are some plastic chairs around if you want to relax in the evening.

The friendly owners will help you arrange local tours and day trips if you ask.
