Mundo Alpaca is place not to miss while in Arequipa. Here, you can learn all about how the fine wool sweater you’ve bought came to being. Selection and sorting of wool, carding, yarn twisting, dying using plants—it’s all here in living display. Several traditional women sit on a patio, weaving the most intricate of designs on a backstrap loom. In another level of the museum are machines that in the modern age do the same tasks. Mundo Alpaca also has alpaca and llama grazing in the garden, and several galleries with prize-winning paintings by regional and national artists.
