Art lovers and photography buffs should find this museum interesting. Dedicated to painting and photography from 1900 onwards, the museum houses an intriguing collection of 20th century art, and photography exhibits of Miguel and Carlos Vargas. The famous Cusco photographer, Martín Chambi, was mentored by these two brothers, who themselves were famous for documenting the daily life and customs of 20th century Arequipa. A more contemporary section, which exhibits work by a range of young local artists, will surely suit those with more modern tastes. Paintings of some of Peru’s most famous artists, such as Fernando de Szyszlo and Enrique Polanco are also featured in the museum. A restored dining car-turned-café and gardens out back are also worth a peek.
