The Parks Of Selva Alegre - City Park Arequipa - Peru

An escape from the White City isn’t too far from downtown. Just six blocks from the Plaza de Armas are two garden-filled green spaces perfect for picnics, jogging, tai chi or yoga.

Parque √Āngel Vinidio Cornejo has two levels (weekends, holidays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Entry: adults $0.40, children under 12 years, free). The lower has a large, children‚Äôs playground, boating pond, mini-zoo with monkey and macaws and snack stands. On the upper terrace are spectacular views of Chachani and Misti volcanoes, and picnic and chess tables.

One block away is Parque Juan Pablo Vizcardo y Guzm√°n (Tuesday-Sunday 5 a.m.-5 p.m. Entry: free). This quiet little park has lots of benches, terraced flowers gardens and fountains amidst broad grassy knolls.

Getting There

The parks are six blocks north of the Plaza de Armas. Walk north on Calle Jerusal√©n and cross Avenida Juan de la Torre. Calle Jerusl√°n now becomes Calle √Ālvarez Thomas. Parque √Āngel Vinidio Cornejo is immediately on the left. One block further on Calle √Ālvarez Thomas, on the right-hand side of the road, is Parque Juan Pablo Vizcardo y Guzm√°n. The Selva Alegre neighborhood is just north of the San L√°zaro neighborhood.

No dogs, alcohol or playing football (soccer) are allowed.
