Arequipa's urban and natural beauty, and it's rich culture, does not make it immune from many of the same social problems that affect the rest of Peru, especially her children. The underfunded and understaffed educational system, in particular, is in high need of assistance, and for this Arequipa provides many volunteers prospects, as well opportunities to learn Spanish.

V!VA User‘s Description

The I-to-I volunteer program in Arequipa needs helpers to work with disadvantaged children, doing work such as feeding, washing, physical therapy, games, activities, and maintenance of the facility. Work is between five to six hours a day, working with the poorest children in Arequipa. Apart from meal preparation, volunteers are needed in areas such as arts, crafts, and teaching English. You will also have an opportunity to play “fútbol” (soccer) and other sports with the children. The cost is US$ 1795.00 for 4 weeks, and includes accommodations and meals.
