Sonccollay

Sonccollay is a Quecha word which means “my little heart” or “from the heart.” This warm, welcoming restaurant serves Inca and pre-Inca cuisine that has survived over 9,000 years. Alpaca, guinea pig, and shrimp are served over hot stones and roasted on a wood fire and complimented by chili peppers stuffed with sweet and spicy ingredients. Sonccollay also offers tasty soups and stews, old style coffee and desserts, sweet juices, native beer and area wines. All dishes are based on original recipes with the finest meats and vegetables. Enjoy beautiful views of surrounding Arequipa while you dine. Open from 8am to 10pm.

Traveler Reviews of Sonccollay

Authentic pre-Inca cuisine

Great little restaurant overlooking the Plaza de Armas in Arequipa. The food is cooked without oil; the meat roasted on hot stones. A great experience, not to be missed. The owner, Walter Bustamante, is something of a character; very friendly and a mine of information. He actually encourages you to take photos - quite refreshing when back in England merely possessing a camera gives cause for suspicion these days.
