Built in 1569, Templo de Coporaque is the oldest church in the Colca Canyon area and is still in use today. While many of the other churches in the area fell victim to the numerous earthquakes over the years, the church here has survived relatively unscathed. The church’s white brick exterior is typical of the region. Its square campaniles contain the bells that were purportedly forged from the melted copper of Mama Yacchi’s house. Inside the church, a variety of 16th century images adorn the altar.
