Transportation
Most people who visit the Colca Canyon from Arequipa hire a professional tour guide, which is fairly inexpensive: costs run an average of $15 a day for two days. However, some may want to head out on their own, in which case they are advised to start by taking any one of a number of minibuses (about 20 solés) that leave from Arequipa. The six hour trip north, traversing 165 km (103 miles) will take one to the village of Cabanaconde, which is the starting point for those who want to explore the Colca Canyon. The warmest and driest weather is from May through November, with condor-watching at its best from June through September.
