Templo de Coporaque

Location:
Coporaque, Peru

Historical Building

By Paula Newton

Templo de Coporaque is the oldest church in the Colca Canyon area, built in 1569 and is still in use today. While many of the other churches in the area fell victim to the numerous earthquakes over the years, the church here survived relatively unscathed. The church has a white brick façade, typical of the region and also has twin bell towers. The church can be found in the small village of Coporaque, which is located just over the river from Chivay.
