V!VA User‘s Description
Coporaque is a small village located across the river from Chivay, about 8 kilometers to the west. There are no services here, and the only phone in the area is a payphone in the plaza, so don't plan on calling home from here. The town's claim to fame is Santiago Apóstol. Built in 1569 it is the oldest church in the Colca Canyon, and its square bell towers contain the bells purportedly forged from the melted copper of Mama Yacchi's house. Inside, a variety of 16th century images adorn the altar. Around the corner is La Capilla de San Sebastián, which also has an interesting façade.
