Due to its proximity to the Chilean border, Tacna restaurants serve up an interesting mixture of dishes from both the Peruvian Andes and Chile. Typical local treats include choclo con queso, or corn with cheeze, cuy frito—fried guinea pig and pastel de choclo which is a kind of corn cake often filled with pork, but sometimes with raisins. Other popular regional specialities include tripe soup, or patasca, fried pork with corn or stew-style dishes served with potatoes which can be washed down with a Pisco Sour.
