In addition to the challenge of tackling the rugged slopes of Alpamayo, this 150-kilometer (93 mi) trek promises captivating views of remote mountain scenery. Adventurers have several trekking options in this area, ranging from fairly easy, one-day treks to full-on 14-to-16-day expeditions. The ice-clad Alpamayo Peak (5,947 m or 19,500 ft) is famous for its nearly perfect conical shape, and should only be scaled by experienced mountaineers with proper equipment. A common starting point for this area is Cashapampa, located at the base of Quebrada Santa Cruz.
