The best season to hit Cusco is April through October, when the region is hot and dry during the day. However, temperatures drop drastically in the evening, and can approach freezing even in the dry season. November to April sees some rainfall and lower temperatures during the wet season; however, the advantage is that from September to May tourist numbers drop and as do prices. Cuzco becomes packed with Peruvians and foreigners alike during all the major holidays, so book ahead. Travelers should also be forewarned that the Inca Trail closes for necessary maintenance for the entire month of February. Cusco is the center of much festival activity, so check the festival calendar before planning your route.
