Monumento Y Mirador Pachacuteq - Monument Cusco - Peru

The ninth leader of the Inca empire, Pachacuteq-who is also credited with spreading the empire's borders beyond the Cusco area-is honored with this striking modern monument. Pachacuteq's image is reproduced here in a massive bronze statue set atop a stone column. The stones were supplied by the surrounding villages, whose quarries supplied the materials for the buildings of Pachacuteq's reign. There is a staircase winding up the tower, and the scenic lookout spot at the top has fantastic views of the city. The climb up is only recommended for those who can handle a few flights of narrow stairs and some claustrophobic spaces.
