Haku Trek is a new development in the Chicón valley and is a collaborative project between NGO ProPeru and the local community. The traditional village of Chicón is situated deep in the Chaquihuayjo valley, just outside Urubamba in the Sacred Valley of the Inkas, Peru.
All hikes are given by Chicón natives, ensuring that tourists have the opportunity to learn the native culture and language and become well informed about the regional wildlife.
The Chicón eco-tourism Project aims to educate tourists about the natural environment. It also aspires to provide an alternative form of employment and income for the inhabitants of Chicón.
The funds generated from the project are used toward the reforestation of the Chicón Valley and queuñal forest. As such, every trek payment contributes to the conservation of endangered plant and animal species in the area.
