Location:
Portal Nuevo 246, Plaza del Regocijo
Cusco, Peru
Hotel
It is hard not to like this very attractive and upscale hotel that faces the peaceful Plaza Regocijo. The rooms start at $30 for a single room during the low season.
If you are planning to spend a little more money during your stay in Cusco, then this is one of the more appealing options. In addition to everything you expect from a Hotel at this price, which includes heated rooms, the Villa Mayor has its own restaurant and spa, the latter offers a range of services from waxing to pedicures. It is still close enough to the rest of old Cusco, but at an enough of a distance to entertain a modicum of tranquility.
This Hotel is: Mid-Range
Room Prices:
Lower:$30

A newly renovated hotel, some rooms are still in the fixing mode. That is why you are getting such a great deal for the location. I stayed on and off during a month in the Sacred Valley area, and I made it home. The staff and owners are very nice. There were many European travelers (I'm an American female). It is located along a park with a wonderful fountain one block from the main square. The hotel is very convenient to all restaurants, shopping and relaxing parts of Cusco. Yes, I pretty much walked everywhere. I am a female who traveled by herself and had no problems at all during my two months in Peru and Bolivia. I am from New York and I have some street smarts. I am writing this review because I am heading back to Peru and I am going to stay again with my friends at Villa Mayor. The facials, massages and other beauty/relaxing services are very reasonable, no frills atmosphere but done by a wonderful soul, Gabby. We made friends; her and her husband even drove me to the airport when I left. I am not saying you will have the experience that I did, but if you open yourself up to connecting with people on a human level, then your stay in Cusco should be wonderful. The staff at Villa Mayor are very friendly and go out of their way to help you with bookings, restaurant referrals and free luggage storage. This is not a three-star place yet, but a gem to in Cusco. I wish them all the best. I stayed there from July-Sept 2007. They were in the process of finishing a restaurant on the main floor, which should be finished by now.
