Cusco Restaurants

follow us

The sheer number and assortment of places to eat in Cusco is a direct reflection of the diversity of the visiting tourists. It's a city steeped in tradition, with fine Peruvian restaurants on almost every corner; the growth of tourism as an industry, however, has created a market for everything from international fine cuisine to fast food. The budget traveler can find fixed-menu almuerzos (lunches) for $2-3, whilst those with a little more money can splurge on world-class fare served up in wonderful surroundings. You can find pretty much every kind of cuisine here, and there are a number of excellent vegetarian options too. Note that any restaurant on the Plaza de Armas tends to be expensive-if you're looking for a bargain-priced meal, head away from the Plaza and towards Avenida El Sol or west of the Plaza near the Mercado Central, which itself is a great place to grab a $2 lunch.

Nightlife

Cusco is undoubtedly a party town. Clubs and bars are loud and busy every single night of the week, and there is an endless supply to choose from; many stay open until sunrise. On the Plaza de Armas, there are around five large clubs with DJs, dance floors, and bustling crowds from 11 p.m. Away from the Plaza, you will find smaller-but not necessarily any less busier-bars and clubs frequented by a more local crowd. There are also a number of snug, relaxed lounge bars. Other favorites are rowdy pubs around the Plaza de Armas, which overflow with foreigners looking for a taste of home. Throughout the lovely neighborhood of San Blas, you will find a number of little bars dotted around the cobbled streets, many hosting nightly live bands.

If you venture out into the Plaza de Armas at night, you will most likely be accosted by young guys handing out free drink tickets and trying to entice you in the club they work for. The free drinks will almost always be rum and coke, and are generally fine; be wary though that they are made out of the cheapest of rums and your stomach will probably not thank you the next day.
