Cava de San Rafael

Cava de San Rafael serves up a modern Andean menu that includes local trout and grilled alpaca (for the daring). But it offers more than just fine cuisine to its clientele; it has a panoramic view of Cusco’s Plaza de Armas, and has an ancestral and folk dance show. The restaurant on the itinerary of most first-class tours

Traveler Reviews of Cava de San Rafael

Wonderful!

Outstanding food, atmosphere, and value...one of the best restaurants we've ever been to in any country!

WARNING: Tourists Trap!

This is a tourist trap disguised as a restaurant. First, the menu is extremely misleading. It's exceptionally well written (in English) and makes the food sound exotic and enticing. I thought I was ordering a Novo Andean plate with "wild mushrooms" but was served an eight dollar bowl of mediocre cream of mushroom soup. My wife ordered a "spicy flaming shrimp and seafood" dish which turned out to be a poor shrimp ceviche with three small wrinkled shrimps. The five dollar wine was fine, but double the price of a true fine restaurant in Peru. Then, to top it all off, when the largest bill that we've had for any meal in Peru arrived (at over thirty dollars) there was a cover charge for the Andean band that was playing. The band was really good. The food really sucked. And was ridiculously overpriced. Unless you want to feel like a stupid tourist that is being taken advantage of, like I did, I'd steer far away from Cave de San Rafael.
