The Mercado Central (also known as the Mercado San Pedro) is perfect for evading the crowds of tourists and experiencing a little local flavor. Come here to buy groceries, sip a delicious fresh fruit juice or grab a cheap lunch-a sense of adventure and an iron stomach are generally necessary for the latter. You'll also find souvenirs, clothes and practical goods here. It has a handy central location, a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas, across from the San Pedro train station. Don't bring valuables with you, and watch your bags and pockets-there are many pickpockets around.
