Owner‘s Description

FairPlay is an NGO based out of Cusco that employs single Peruvian mothers to train and empower them to support themselves as capable Spanish teachers.  You pay your teachers directly so they earn a fair income. All teachers have successfully finished an intense seven-month training course. The school also uses a unique learning method that combines grammar and real-world practice. Only private lessons are offered: 20 hours per week costs $120 and 30 hours per week costs $190. The price includes the grammer and practice books, as well as a set of flashcards for beginners.

FairPlay also offers homestays with Peruvian middle class families. One week costs $72 for a private room with a shared bathroom and three meals a day. $82 will get you a room with a private bathroom and three meals a day. Individuals pay $15 a week to FairPlay and to the rest to the family.

Loved It

Rating: 100%

We really liked the school. The teachers were great and it had a great community for travelers with cooking classes on Wednesdays and volleyball on Saturday. Plus there are other activities that go on in the community or within the host families. The host families and school are about 10-15 minutes out of the center of Cusco, which for some is a little inconvenient but there is one B&B style homestay in the center.

Amazing Experience

Rating: 100%

My husband and I spent a month in Cusco this summer learning Spanish through Fairplay. We loved our experience. The teachers were wonderful. They were extremely well trained and tailored classes to meet our needs. In a month we were both able to become conversational in Spanish. We stayed at the school and had a great time getting to know the family and other students from all over the world. John, the director of Fairplay was also great at giving suggestions for weekend and day trips into the Sacred Valley and other surrounding areas.

Flexible and reasonable

Rating: 100%

We just had a couple hours to spare and wanted to fit in a quick lesson for my husband, myself and our 13 year old son. Each of us had a one-on-one instructor, who took us around Cusco to develop our conversational Spanish. Excellent teachers and it is great to know that it is supporting single mothers around Cusco. Highly recommended.

A great experience!

You pay the teachers directly, so you know the money will go directly to those who need it most. John and Fanny are a Belgian/Peruvian couple who support the teachers. Way to go!
