SAS Travel

SAS Travel is owned and operated by an Australian-Peruvian couple, and provides professional tours of Machu Picchu, Manu National Park and Puerto Maldonado. The company also offers many adventure daytrips in the Sacred Valley, including river rafting, horseback riding, mountain biking and rock climbing. SAS can arrange trips to the Floating Islands in Puno, to the Nasca Lines and to Colca Canyon in Arequipa. A reputable agency, SAS is very busy and can occasionally overbook; however, sometimes they add on extra tours if need be.

SAS Travel let me down

SAS Travel took my reservation for a trek and a deposit of $150 from me. When I arrived in Cusco, I went to pay them the rest, as agreed. At that point they informed me that there were only two participants for the trek so it was not going to run, unless they could get 3 more people within 24 hours (impossible for an alternative trek in the low season). They asked me to switch my dates, which I couldn't. I found an alternative trek with Sun Gate Tours (excellent) and went back to SAS to get a refund of the deposit, at which point they told me they weren't going to give me a refund because I was cancelling my trek!!! After a 20 minute, fairly heated row, they agreed to refund me my deposit. These people were not honest with me from the beginning as there was never any indication given that the trek might not run. In addition, they have a very bad reputation as an employer and allegedly do not treat their staff well. Go with another operator if you want to ensure that your trek will depart.
