Its most attractive selling point: being right next door to the historic Compañía Catholic Church on the Plaza de Armas. Particularly pleasant is Hostal Santa María's second floor, where you can sit on the terrace and marvel at the church from a closer and more elevated angle than from the street. A single room varies from $8 to $20 according to season, and they are generally excellent for this price range. Continental breakfast is included. The hostel also has its own on-site massage clinic. For the sake of culture and/or art, each room has a wooden cross displayed, but Hostal Santa María has been in business for 18 years, so it must know what it's doing.
