Hotel

V!VA User‘s Description

Owned and operated by the prestigious Orient Express Hotels group, the Monasterio is the most luxurious hotel in Cuzco. The hotel complex was formerly the San Antonio Abad seminary, which was built over 300 years ago and served as an actual monastery and seminary until recently. The seminary itself was constructed on foundations of Inca stonework. The monk's cells have been converted to elegant, comfortable rooms, the courtyards still have ancient trees, and much of the colonial art and paintings still adorn the walls and hallways. You can live like the monks did--only much, much better. The Hotel Monasterio has even installed a system to pump more oxygen into the rooms, to counteract the effects of altitude on their guests. The hotel is huge: it has over 100 rooms plus several suites. There are two restaurants and a bar on the premises, as well as an original chapel which is still considered to be consecrated ground. There is an on-site travel agency which can arrange all sorts of tours.

Traveler Reviews of Hotel Monasterio

Excellent

Rating: 100%

Located around the corner from the entrance, right across the street from the Monasterio, this simple hotel has friendly service and a beautiful balcony overlooking the Monasterio and the volcanos surrounding Arequipa.

simply the best

Best place in Cusco, no if, ands or buts. Expensive, but awesome.

Like sleeping in a different century

Rating: 100%

This place is spectacular. If you're like me and couldn't actually afford to spend a night there at $360, a meal in the restaurant or a drink in the bar will give you a feel for this landmark, that is a tourist attraction in itself.
