Manager Jane Berthelsen said she had "the sort of food from back home that you miss" when she came up with the idea of Jack's. That means "hearty pea and ham soup," or "a big, juicy cheeseburger," not to mention Jack's antipasto, "a mixed plate of yummy things." And, oh yeah, Tex-Mex nachos. In the Plaza de Armas neighbourhood Jack's offers large, well-made platterfuls of North American favourites, and that includes hummus with crispy ciabatta and a roasted pumpkin soup with fresh herbs. Open everyday from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Jack's also has a bar. Popular with foreigners, the prices are very reasonable, from $2 to $6.

Excellent breakfasts
