Maikhana Namaskar is a well-kept secret in Cusco. So well kept, in fact, that even locals who profess a love of Indian food don't know that a purveyor of samosas and hot chai tea even exists in San Blas. Coyly hidden in the Galería de Arte Señor Mérida, it's easy to pass right on by the restaurant, even if you know exactly what you're looking for.
However, a well-honed sense of direction and a little persistence will be handsomely rewarded with spicy curries and homemade chutneys, hot rice, soft naan and a menu thick with options for vegetarians. The service requires some patience, and tandoori fans may suffer disappointment at the semi-permanent absence of tandoori-cooked options on the menu, but the food (prepared by Indian chefs) is some of Cusco's best ethnic fare.
