Aguas Calientes-which translates as hot waters-derives its name from the sulfur-heated waters found here. Though the springs are set in concrete, squared-shaped baths (if you're imagining rustic, beautiful pools, you'll be disappointed), the water is naturally heated-well, lukewarm is more accurate -and is considered to have medicinal properties, though sadly the walk along the riverside to the springs is probably the most pleasant part of the whole experience. Morning is the best time to come: the pools can get crowded in the afternoons and the water dirty. There are changing rooms and a cafeteria and swimwear, towels and sandals are mandatory.
