Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town) Services

Considering the vast number of tourists it attracts, it’s no wonder that the town of Aguas Calientes has an array of services; you will find numerous Internet cafés, shops and laundry services, though—surprisingly— banks and ATMs are in short supply.

Machu Picchu Ticket Office: Daily 5:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Centro Cultural Machupicchu on the main plaza.

Police Station: Av. Imperio de Los Incas, (two blocks south of Plaza Manco Capac).

Banco de Crédito: Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-1 p.m., 2.30-6 p.m. Has a 24-hr ATM. Be warned though: this ATM is used excessively by tourists and can sometimes run of our money, so it’s wise to bring some extra cash with you to avoid any money-related crises. Av. Imperio de los Incas. Tel: 211-342.

Agua’s Calientes Hospital is located on Avenida Imperio de los Incas (by the artisan market).

Hampi Land is a collection of clinics in Cusco, Urubamba and Aguas Calientes that cater specifically to foreigners. The staff speaks English and there are a variety of services on offer. Barrio Las OrquĂdeas C-13. Tel: 224-575 (24 hrs), URL: Updated: Mar 28, 2012.

The little things you don’t take into account when you set off to conquer the Inca Trail…such as your dirty laundry. Dubious tourist rates apply here in a popular destination spot like Aguas Calientes as anywhere else, so here is the scoop: Angela’s Laundry, on Avenida Pachaqutec, is the cheapest and the best, washing your smelly clothes for about $2.50 a kilo and sleeping bags and sneakers for about $4.50, all guaranteed washed, dried, and returned in four hours or less.
