Tampu Restaurant Bar

Location:
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail, Peru

Restaurant

By Liz Kersjes

Tampu Restaurant Bar is an a la carte restaurant a short stroll away from Machu Picchu’s entrance, within the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. The restaurant serves international and Peruvian food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with high tea in the afternoon. Prices are high (for cheaper eats, head to Aguas Calientes, about 30 minutes away by bus) but with Tampu’s prime location, five-star reputation and lack of competition it can get away with them.

Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge has two dining choices — Tampu and Tinkuy Buffet Restaurant, a fixed-price buffet only open for lunch. Of the two, Tampu is the better choice. The restaurant is less crowded, entrée prices are generally cheaper than the buffet and you get a great view of the Andes.
