Aguas Calientes, Peru

Hotel

The Presidente Hotel has earned two-star expectations, but charges a rate more in common with three-star facilities. Single rooms start at $45 in low-season and $50 in high. However, it justifies its higher price with niceties such as Jacuzzi bathtubs in the rooms. This hotel sits between railroad tracks and the roaring Urubamba River, and offers great views of the steep, moss-covered mountains surrounding Aguas Calientes. Other services such as cable TV and a buffet breakfast are included in the price. This is a popular place to stay for international tourists who want the reassurance of quality that paying more money entails.

Comfort and Safety

Right on the river. More like a mini-suite, but the rooms are small. But no big deal. We slept like babies. Take caution with mosquitos. Close the windows, use bug spray. Trust me - just do it. You'll thank me later.
