The Sacred Valley abounds with opportunities to get your adrenaline fix en route to ruins. Leave the tour bus behind, and mountain bike to the Moray Ruins or take a ride down the 14,400-foot Abra Málaga Pass. Trek to the Choquequirao ruins (a journey also known as "the other Inca trail") or whitewater raft the Apurímac Canyon. Ollantaytambo is an ideal jump-off point for outdoor adventures throughout the valley, whether you're interested in half-day, full-day or multi-day trips. All organized trips require a minimum of two people; however, with a group of three or more, prices are lower per person. Full-day mountain bike trips start about $35 (for do-it-yourself types, it's also possible to rent bikes, helmets and gear for about half the price), rafting starts at $20 and myriad multi-day combo trekking/biking trips start as low as $150 per person, but do cost as much as $250 per person for longer, more involved excursions.

For an outdoor adventure on a smaller scale, it's possible to book city walking tours and short horse riding trips at various locations around Ollantaytambo, including restaurants and tour agencies in the Plaza Mayor.
