By Ricardo Segreda

For cultural and conscientious collectors, the Fair Trade Association outlet in Ollantaytambo on the Jirón de la Convención is a must-visit in their Peru journey. It is the retail outlet for the Patacancha Women's Cooperative, created with the intention of preserving and reviving the art of weaving done with traditional methods and natural dyes, a practice going back centuries. Lliqllas (a sort of very wide and long scarf), chullos (caps), handbags, ponchos, blankets and other hand-woven products are all produced with an authenticity that is priceless. As regards the Fair Trade Association's practice, the women employed earn a living wage for their work. In cooperation with the Casa Ecológica, this store also sells organic honey, soy, and sesame oil, among other products, not to mention pottery and ceramics.
