A visit to Awana Kancha is an appealing way to spend an afternoon. A quick 10-minute taxi ride outside Pisac, this community project has a collection of different types of Camelids, including llamas, alpacas and vicuñas. Awana Kancha works with different communities in the area that employ traditional techniques for spinning and dying wool, using natural materials and weaving traditional designs. You can buy these high-quality weavings in the large store, and there are exhibits demonstrating how the natural substances are used. There is also a small snack bar. Afternoons are the best time to visit, as mornings can get busy with tour groups. Contact Awana Kancha in advance to organize a guided tour. No fee is charged to visit the project, but donations are welcome.
