Avoid Paz y Luz

Rating: 0%

I was drawn to Paz y Luz by the beautiful pictures posted on the internet, which showed a nicely decorated central sitting area and a quiet remote setting. Unfortunately, my experience was much different. The sitting area that was pictured is actually the owners private quarters and not available to guests. As for the setting, I'm sure it was once nice but now there are many more buildings in the surrounding area, including the many buildings that have gone up at Paz y Luz. Our room looked out at the construction zone of what is in the process of becoming another set of motel style rooms. This is no longer a quaint B&B. It's now just a bunch of buildings in a complex with no real appeal. The complex is gated and locked and guests are not given a key to the gate. When we we arrived the owner was out giving a tour and not due back until 10 p.m., so we were greeted by locals who staff the place during the day. Unfortunately at supper time, when it was dark we were unable to find any staff around so were forced to stay on the complex, because we had no way of getting back into the grounds. Consequently, we skipped supper. In the evening my husband was experiencing a lot of problems with altitude sickness but there were no phones, no one around to contact for help and the town is a 15 minute walk down an unlit trail. Not something I wanted to attempt by myself and my husband was in no condition to walk anywhere. We were very disappointed with the whole experience and would not recommend this place at all! There are other nice places to stay in Pisac.

A peaceful place with many great people, clean rooms and hot showers. I would definitely return.

A beautiful spot...

Rating: 100%

I do not agree with the negative review that was posted. Paz y Luz is safe, convenient and it is located in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains, many of which retain very impressive Incan ruins. The proprietor is extremely friendly. The cabins are cleaned daily and, though not huge, they are very comfortable. The bathrooms are equivalent to what you would find in your typical mid-level/budget hotel in the States. They are clean, have working toilets, sinks and hot water showers. I thought that this was a wonderful setting. You are close enough to walk into Pisac's main market square in about 15 minutes, but otherwise enjoy a nice view of fields, river and mountains. The visible constellations at night will make you stare up in wonder for a very long time...
