Volunteering

Nueva Acropolis, or "New Acropolis," is an international organization dedicated to preserving and fostering culture, learning, science, and philosophy.  They have forty chapters across the world, including one right in Puno. The name "Acropolis" means "high city," which considering Puno's 11,000 foot (3,300 meter) altitude makes having a here very fitting.  They have a volunteer program in effect during the months of July and December, where help is needed on any number of quality-of-life projects, such as teaching painting, offering workshops on disease prevention, medicinal plants, and hygiene, providing healthcare services as well as restoring monuments, and cleaning rivers, parks, and shorefronts.
