The Cecovasa Café

Location:
Jiron Deustua 576, inside the Casa del Corregidor, Puno
Puno, Peru

Restaurant

By Ricardo Segreda

The Cecovasa Café in the Casa del Corregidor is managed by a collection of cooperatives, and provides visitors to Puno a chance to sample authentic, organic coffee that compensates its producers with fair wages. Of course, there's also a wide selection of native grown teas, including coca, the latter recommended for coping with Puno's high altitude. Soups, sandwiches, and pastries are also on the menu in a relaxed atmosphere of local art and used books. Profits from the sale of their coffee also help protect the biodiversity of local natural resources such as the Bahuaja Sonene National Park and the Tambopata Candamo Natural Reserve, discourage the cultivation of illegal, unregulated crops, and fund social, educational, and health benefits for the local population.
