Outside of the bustle of Copacabana´s backpacker-filled downtown, the night-time streets lack adequate light, so visitors should ensure to return to the city before nightfall. Copacabana, is also heavily frequented by pickpockets not afraid to slash into your bag, pack, etc., so be careful in crowded areas like markets and bus stations.
