Palacio de Gobierno - Historical Building Lima - Peru

On the northeast side of the Plaza de Armas, near the Río Rímac, the Palacio del Gobierno has long been the site of Peruvian rulers. In the mid-16th century, Marquis Francisco Pizarro constructed the original palace on the site of Inca curaca Tauri Chusko’s residence. Over the centuries, earthquakes, fires and pillages destroyed the residence. The present neo-Baroque incarnation was built in the 1920s and 30s in several phases by several architects. Monday through Saturday, there is a changing of the guard. Free guided tours of the public salons are held every Saturday.
