Conveniently located on the Plaza de San Martín, the Gran Hotel Bolívar is a stately, elegant white building that was first built in 1924. It was specifically constructed to accommodate visiting heads of state and dignitaries who were coming to Lima to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the pivotal battle of Ayacucho, and it shows. Arched doorways, crystal chandeliers and tasteful rooms and corridors abound. There are several large salons for special events such as meetings and weddings. Their list of previous guests includes many presidents and leaders of Latin American countries, as well as Ernest Hemingway, Orson Welles and even the Rolling Stones. Although expensive by old town standards, the room rates are surprisingly reasonable for such a historic and well-located building. Mid-range travelers may want to consider upgrading for a night. Breakfast is included in the rates.

It was the best hotel of Peru in the sixtis. Its a bequtiull colonial Hotel for people that like the original Peru. Take the Presidential Suite, is not expensive and you will be like a President!!!
The location of this hotel is good in downtown Lima, but the rest is well under accepted standards. There is no shampoo in the bathrooms, the included breakfast is basically bread and butter with coffee and we had to change rooms because of hot water issues. At the very end, they overcharged us. When we confronted the staff the next day, they acknowledged the error but refused to refund the money, offering us a credit for a subsequent stay. When we asked to talk to the manager, we were told she only shows up sometimes and does not have a fixed schedule. A very bad experience overall.
