Convento y Museo de los Descalzos - Museum Lima - Peru

El Museo de los Descalzos, (literally, “The Museum of the Shoeless Ones”) is housed in a convent that formerly was a spiritual sanctuary for the Franciscan order. Today it contains a great deal of religious and colonial art, as well as a restored chapel with gold-covered altars, an old wine-making area and a pharmacy. The museum is quite interesting, particularly for those who wish to know more about the colonial era or the art of Peru’s early history. English-speaking guides are often available. Mass is still celebrated, generally in the hours before the museum opens in the morning and after it closes at night.
