Market

By Michelle Hopey

Every Saturday morning locals flock to Parque Reducto in Miraflores to buy fresh organic produce and to taste an assortment of organic breads, jams and coffee as part of the weekly Bioferia, or organic market. With a wide selection of fruits and vegetables, the Bioferia is cheap, delicious, unique and definitely is worth a visit.

Nearly a block long, the market is largely made up of a local organic farmers and environmental, education and natural health organizations, along with NGOs. It is a child-friendly zone, as there are many hands-on education activities for the young ones and many presentations on ecology and organic food production. Aside from fresh organic fruits and vegetables, you can pick-up items such as chicken, eggs and a number of cow and goat milk products, including cheese. Perhaps the best part, though, are the organic baked-goods and jams--and of course, don't forget to wash it down with a fresh organic guanábana juice or a sip of organic coffee.
